Short Interest
Reported short interest by security with change metrics, days to cover, and float percentage. Track which names are getting crowded.
How this works
Short interest is the total number of shares currently sold short and not yet covered, reported by exchanges and self-regulatory organizations on a fixed cadence — bi-monthly in the US (FINRA), varying by market elsewhere. Short % of float measures that against the tradable share count, and days-to-cover estimates how many trading days of average volume it would take short sellers to buy back their entire position. Both are standard, widely-used measures of short-side pressure and potential squeeze risk.

Ranked by short % of float combined with days-to-cover — names that are both heavily shorted and slow to unwind at normal volume. A simple composite, not a proprietary squeeze-probability model.
Frequently asked questions
- How often is short interest updated?
- In the US, FINRA reports short interest twice monthly on a fixed settlement schedule. Other markets vary — some report daily, others follow a similar bi-monthly or monthly cadence depending on the local regulator.
- What counts as a high short % of float?
- There’s no universal threshold, but names above 10-20% of float shorted are generally considered heavily shorted and worth watching for crowding or squeeze dynamics.
- Is short interest the same as short volume?
- No — short interest is a periodic snapshot of total open short positions. Short volume is a daily measure of how many shares traded were sold short that specific day. They answer different questions: short interest shows accumulated positioning, short volume shows daily activity.
