Borrow Rates & Lending
Securities lending rates, availability, and utilization from prime broker feeds. See what it costs to borrow and where supply is tightening.
How this works
The rebate rate is what a short seller earns (or pays, if negative) on the cash collateral posted to borrow shares — for easily-borrowed "general collateral" names it sits near the risk-free rate, while for scarce, hard-to-borrow names it goes negative, which functions as an extra borrowing cost on top of collateral. A deeply negative rebate is the clearest single signal that a stock is expensive or difficult to short.

Frequently asked questions
- What is a rebate rate?
- The interest rate paid on cash collateral posted against a stock loan. Near the general-collateral (risk-free) rate means easy to borrow; negative means hard to borrow, and the more negative, the more expensive.
- Why not just show a borrow fee?
- Rebate is the actual mechanism securities lending desks quote and trade on, and it captures both the collateral return and the borrowing cost in one number — which is why we lead with it rather than a derived fee figure.
- How often does this update?
- Rates are refreshed as new data loads in; loads aren’t strictly daily for every market, so "day-over-day" movers compare against the most recent prior loaded date, not literally yesterday.
